We're Hiring!
We are currently looking to recruit one full time Programmes Assistant and one part time Business Development Assistant.
Programmes Assistant
Salary: £22,000 p/a - rising to £23,000 p/a after probationary period
Working pattern: Monday- Friday, 09:00-18:00
Duration of Appointment: 12 month contract with potential for extension. Immediate start.
Location: Majority of the work will be remote. You must have the ability to work from home. A laptop or other device, as well as a reliable internet connection is required.
Travel: Travel to London or other areas will be required around once monthly.
Please note: If you are a current or previous beneficiary of the Academy scheme, you will be ineligible to apply for this vacancy.
Responsibilities:
- General administrative support to assist the Programmes Manager. This could include: setting up meetings, coordinating diaries and sending calendar invitations and online meeting links to the relevant parties. It may also include ad-hoc support to specific programme elements.
- Assisting with Academy promotion, including answering applicant queries, supply of supporting media, and contacting other organisations for media circulation.
- Creation and posting of media to various social media platforms to support Academy operations.
- Management of email inboxes, focusing on candidate facing requests, including responding to emails in a professional and timely manner.
- Assisting with the delivery of Academy events, including on site support to in person events in London or otherwise.
- Tracking and updating candidate related information, such as attendance, completion of specific course elements, and reimbursement requests.
- Support with other tasks as required by the Programmes Manager.
An ideal candidate might have:
- Comfortability with the Google Suite, including Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Gmail.
- Comfortability with Linkedin, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Comfortability with Canva or other similar image editing software.
- An active interest in BTB’s ongoing activities, and an alignment with the charity’s core objectives.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and organisations from different backgrounds.
- A willingness to take ownership of responsibilities.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- The ability to work independently.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Sound moral judgment.
- The ability and willingness to both hold and be held accountable by colleagues during the implementation of BTB activities.
- The ability to work efficiently and under pressure to strict deadlines.
Business Development Assistant
Salary: £22,000 p/a (pro rata)
Working pattern: 09:00-18:00, 3 days a week, working days to be decided with the Partnerships Manager
Duration of Appointment: 6 month contract. May start. Contract applicable for extension should targets be met.
Location: Majority of the work will be remote. You must have the ability to work from home. A laptop or other device, as well as a reliable internet connection is required.
Travel: Travel to London or other areas may be required on occasion.

Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be required chiefly to provide support for the development of a new commercial project for launch in September 2024, as well as being expected to provide support to the Partnerships Manager across the whole business development profile.
General Support Responsibilities
- General administrative support of Partnerships Manager: emails, maintenance of spreadsheets, and other ad-hoc support as required by the Partnerships Manager.
- Creation and deployment of social media content in support of Bridging the Bar’s wider business goals.
- Involvement in the delivery of Partnership Initiatives.
Project Specific Responsibilities
- Contributing to creating timelines, milestones and deliverables to allow for effective project planning
- Conducting research and gathering data to support the substantive development of the project.
- Scheduling meetings and project related events.
- Assist in the recruitment of volunteers or individuals to fill other contributory roles.
- Assist PM with forecasting and tracking expenditure.
- Undertaking project outreach activities. **
- Provide administrative support to the Partnerships Manager for the deployment of the project.
- Following up on progress of action items and other tasks and reporting to the Partnerships Manager.
- Support the Partnerships Manager to ensure milestones are met.
An ideal candidate might have:
- Comfortability with the Google Suite, including Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Gmail
- Experience working or volunteering in the charitable sector.
- Experience in business development or administrative roles.
- An active interest in BTB’s ongoing activities, and an alignment with the charity’s core objectives.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and organisations from different backgrounds.
- Strong organisational and administrative skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Sound moral judgment.
- The ability to work efficiently and under pressure to strict deadlines.
- The ability to build rapport and maintain commercial relationships with key stakeholders.
- A strong commitment to EDI.

Individual Volunteers
If you are qualified as a barrister in the UK then we are looking for you! We have three current volunteer opportunities for individuals that would like the opportunity to support our mission. We are recruiting markers from now until the end of May, mentors from now until the end of September, and consultancy panellists from now until the end of October. Markers
We are recruiting markers for the 23/24 Academy applications until the end of May, so if you would like the opportunity to get involved in selecting the next cohort, this is your chance! We operate rolling and verticle marking so you will mark applications from applications opening until September and will mark all applications for your questions and criteria. We are asking for a time commitment of about 12 hours split over 4 months. Please see this guide for more information and feel free to get in touch with [email protected] with any questions!
Mentors
We are recruiting mentors for the 23/24 Academy! As a mentor, you will be paired with a candidate who shares an interest in your practice area to provide 1:1 support over the course of the Academy year. Support from mentors is one of the most beloved aspects of the academy and in providing this support you are really changing lives! Consultancy Panel
We are recruiting individuals to sit on our consultancy panel until November of this year. The consultancy panel offers candidates an opportunity to get ad-hoc 1:1 support with a specific question or problem. The consultancy panel is designed to fit in with practitioners' busy schedules with panellists being ale to accept or decline requests according to their own capacity. Chambers
If your chambers is interested in getting involved with BTB as either an interview advocacy training provider or a mini-pupillage training provider then you can either sign up or request more information using the sign-up link above. We are recruiting for mini-pupillage providers from now until January of 2024, and for interview advocacy providers from now until September 2023. For more information on the courses, please see our programme guides below.
Interview Advocacy
We are looking for chambers to provide two in-person half days of training to five or more candidates. The training will focus on specific advocacy exercises, giving candidates the opportunity to attempt, receive feedback on, and improve their performance on common interview questions. A full guide with timeline and example exercises will be given to participating chambers by BTB and there is no cost to chambers who choose to get involved. Mini-pupillages
We are currently looking for chambers to provide mini-pupillage places for our candidates. We run two cycles of mini-pupillages within the Academy year: cycle one from October to January and cycle two from February to June. Chambers can get involved with just one or both cycles, and there is no minimum number of places required! There is no cost for chambers associated with this programme and the administrative burden is handled by BTB.
