UKSC Paid Internship Application Workshop 2021

This is a recording of the UKSC Paid Internship Application Workshop 2021 which originally took place on the 10 June 2021.

In May 2021, BTB formed an historic partnership with the UK Supreme Court (“UKSC”) to introduce the first ever paid internship scheme for aspiring lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds. Led by Eleanor Tack, Head of Marshalling at BTB, the UKSC internship programme offered a five-day placement to eight BTB candidates.

In this recording, Eleanor answers questions about the programme, the application process and the marking criteria.

"All 12 supreme court justices are white and only two are women. Across the judiciary in England and Wales, the proportion of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) court judges was 8% as of 1 April, with 4% in senior posts (High Court and above). For women, the respective figures were 32% and 26%. According to the 2011 census, 14% of the population were BAME and 51% were female." Read morehere.
